How can we help young children experience musical ideas through movement?

In this Dalcroze Lab, Anne-Claire Rey-Bellet will share practical teaching ideas for music classes with children around 5–6 years old. Drawing on her extensive experience teaching children and training Dalcroze educators at the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze in Geneva, Anne-Claire will explore how simple musical themes and repertoire can inspire movement while helping children experience and internalize the structure of the music.

Presenter

Anne-Claire Rey-Bellet has found her way of expression in pedagogy and songwriting.

Born in Geneva, she holds a License’s degree (currently Master’s degree) and a Post Grad for elderly from Jaques-Dalcroze, and has taught for 38 years at the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze where she gave Eurhythmic lessons to children and for elderly. She has also given Eurhythmic lessons in houses for elderly, introductory piano lessons through improvisation, methodology and pedagogy courses to students at the Haute Ecole de Genève intending to obtain the Jaques-Dalcroze Master’s degree, as well as training for the DIP, the Conservatories or the Hautes Ecoles Pédagogiques. She is called upon to give pedagogy courses, workshops and conferences all over the world (Canada, China, Korea, Costa Rica, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Romania, Singapore, Taiwan…) and online with the USA or Asia.

At the same time, she is the songwriter of Zélie-Chansons, a collection for families and teachers. She can link in Dalcroze’s pedagogy and in the composition of songs, her love of words, music and her desire to help everyone develop in the humanist sense of the term.
Her collections Zélie-Chansons have been translated into Romanian, they are currently being translated into English, Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin).

She now continues her path as an independent, sharing and transmitting her experience and her conviction that by touching children and teachers, by bringing joy and emotion to everyone throughout their lives, music will deposit the drops of a brighter world.
