Dr. Marta Sanchez

Born in Chile, Dr. Marta Sanchez was the founder of the Carnegie Mellon University Dalcroze Training Center, a past president of the Dalcroze Society of America and board member of the Centre Nationale de Documentation Jaques-Dalcroze. Dr. Sanchez is recognized internationally as author, researcher, lecturer, educational consultant and Dalcroze specialist. She is co-developer of Piano Tutor, a computer-aided system to teach beginning piano. She has been an ongoing guest professor at the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze in Geneva, Switzerland, and at the Carnegie Mellon Dalcroze Training Center Satellite Programs in Taiwan, Korea, and at the Nagoya School of Music in Japan. She is the author of The Spanish Villancico of the Eighteenth Century as well as innumerable educational articles. She was also a presenter of Dalcroze workshops in Europe, Latin America and Australia. Dr. Marta Sanchez was Emerita Professor of Music at Carnegie Mellon University. She pursued her Ph.D. in Musicology at the University of Pittsburgh, her Dalcroze Diplome at the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze in Switzerland and her piano and music education studies at the University of Chile, Santiago, Chile. She was very active in educational and artistic institutions and as a reviewer of books in music and music education.
