Dalcroze Warm-Up

Presenter

Recorded June 6, 2024 | Added May 15, 2025

A flowing warm-up that students to move through the space while swinging with the piano’s rhythm.

Lauren Hodgson (Dalcroze License) leads her class in a flowing warm-up, inviting them to move through the space while swinging with the piano’s rhythm. As they explore their own movement vocabulary, students embody the feel of compound meter—the focus of this lesson. This activity also sharpens their awareness of the music (“if my music is smaller, adjust your movement”) and their connection to others in the space (“acknowledge people you haven’t met before”).
