Board Chair’s Letter

Published Spring 2025 | Added August 3, 2025

As my time as board chair and trustee comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible people I have gotten a chance to know and work with in service to our community. The Dalcroze community is truly special. Each practitioner brings their own unique perspective to this work and the DSA gives us a chance to collaborate and learn from each other.

When we collaborate, it can sometimes challenge us and highlight different perspectives. However, it will also reveal our shared values and a great amount of passion for this work.  To the board members, the committee chairs, and the committee members I’ve had a chance to work with—thank you for your time, energy, and contributions.

Our organization has experienced tremendous growth in recent years. We have active committees focused on children’s initiatives, historical preservation, publications, marketing, events, diversity, and more. One major focus has been sharing resources with our broader community, both with those who are curious about Dalcroze and with our members. You may have noticed an increase in online “shorts” on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Our executive director, Alex Marthaler, has been working diligently to publish content on a regular basis across these platforms. We’ve seen great engagement so far; your support in liking and sharing this content is appreciated.

Looking ahead, I see even more exciting developments on the horizon. We’ll continue to expand our member resources, present engaging programming through the Dalcroze Lab, and plan for our next national conference. If you would like to be involved with any of these efforts, please reach out to boardchair@dalcrozeusa.org.

Finally, I’m thrilled to announce that I will be passing the proverbial gavel to Mira Larson, who will serve as chair of the board beginning in the 2025–2026 year. Mira has served as both secretary and treasurer of the dsa. I have full confidence in her leadership and look forward to what the future holds for the DSA.
