The past few years I’ve spent as chair of the Dalcroze USA publications committee have been more rewarding than I could have imagined.
As a mother of three young daughters, I’ve had to take a major pause from most of my music career for the time being, but I keep Dalcroze alive for myself through the hours spent with the publications committee in preparing and releasing biannual magazines, bimonthly blog posts, quarterly videos of expert teachers in the Dalcroze USA community, and more. The aim of the publications committee is to provide valuable and interesting resources to our membership in several types of media.
However, our work isn’t always reaching the farthest corners of the community as we’d hope, especially considering the amount of time we all put in to provide this content.
While many active members of the Dalcroze USA community are participating in and interacting with our output, we would like our resources to reach the Dal-curious: the music educators, music therapists, performers, and others who would like to enhance their musicianship through this work. We are finding that our community is in desperate need of more volunteers who can help market our content and help distribute it far and wide.
At our upcoming national conference from June 6–8, 2024, at Oberlin College and Conservatory, our membership has the opportunity to mingle, reconnect, and network. If you, like me, are taking a pause in your Dalcroze teaching or studies, please consider keeping the Dalcroze spirit alive by volunteering your time as a marketer for the widespread dissemination of the materials the publications committee is working hard to release several times a year.
Your help could help new and interested Dalcrozians-to-be, as well as us veterans!
