Explore the pedagogy of Dalcroze Education in a workshop designed for classroom teachers.

Teaching Artist: Ruth Alperson, Diplôme d’Études Supérieur

Dalcroze Eurhythmics emphasizes learning through experience; it focuses on awareness and discovery through action: moving, singing, improvising, and working with others. In our eurhythmics session, we will explore beat, meter, changing meter, phrase, and rhythm pattern. All of these elements are present in a lively and lovely folk song that provides the centerpiece of our lesson. Exercises in Solfège will help us to grasp the melodic and harmonic elements in the work, while developing inner hearing. Our session will wrap up with a Question / Answer period, in which some basic pedagogy will be discussed. We will observe, for example, how the Dalcroze approach provides an easy way to notate rhythm and melody.
